If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone.

yes i see that written out here in this link. Would have been better if he caught it and fell at the one-yard line: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/steelers-get-robbed-controversial-non-catch-call-003343632.html

It is still an incomplete pass. Would NE have challenged it, who knows.

The bottom line is they got the call 100% right so why all the whining?

Mima nafshach - if they got the call wrong, it's bad. If they got the call right, it's an idiotic rule. The guy caught the ball. It was a touchdown. If you want to disqualify it on a stupid technicality, that's not enjoyable sports, it's watching the ink dry on a legal brief.

just watched it again he catches pulls the ball towards he body. knee hits the ground then he turns and stretches out for goal line and that causes him to.hitnthe ground with the ball and it moves. if that's not a catch then the rule is really messed up.
second everyone on radio and tv is saying it's the wrong call but CM says it's so obvious

+1, had he been touched on his way down play would be dead at the point his knee hits the ground.  He then stretches out and ball moves when his hand hits the ground.

Wrong!!! Read the rule!!!

Is this Trump making all these posts?  :)

If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone.

He maintained control then stretched out.
And No reason to ruin everything with politics.  Nfl is hurting enough without it.

He was not a runner. He has to keep possession after hitting the ground. What part of the rule don't you understand?

If you have a problem with the rule or reply I am with you. The only thing I am addressing here is they got the call right.

Even insufferable Pats fans are saying the Steelers got screwed. You are missing the point. Even if you are correct that it is the right call as per the letter of the law, the letter of the law is so beyond stupid, it's infuriating.

Just think - imagine if instead of the fumbling the ball as it hit the ground, a Pats defensive player would have knocked the ball out of his hand. It would have been a touchdown- not an incomplete pass. He caught the ball, made two steps, knee was down, forearm was down - he established possession, completed the catch and crossed the goal line before the fumble was caused. However, because he landed and the ball came out 10 minutes after all of those things - no catch. How stupid is that?

Are you hallucinating? He caught the ball in the air. Landed on his knee and took ZERO steps.

The rule is 100% clear!!! You don't like the rule so join the crowd. Not liking the rule doesn't make it a catch.

He catches the ball, feet in the air. Foot 1 lands. Knee 1 lands. Foot 2 lands. Ball crosses the plane. Elbow lands. Ball hits the ground and comes out.

That's 3 ways he established possession.

Two feet landing without the ball bobbling is the same thing as taking two steps.

WOW this is really sad. Two feet landing (didn't even happen) does not make him a runner. You need to understand the difference between a runner with possession and making a catch establishing possession. Do you understand this basic difference?

How many times can I tell you the problem isn't the call, it's the rule. It's stupid, stupid, stupid. Has been stupid for years. Everyone complains about it. It's easy to fix. But the NFL in its hubris lets this nonsense of us arguing where some no name tight end's toe nail was because all the star players were injured continue.
