Opinions on traveling through europe
« on: August 30, 2011, 11:19:15 PM »
I was wondering what the best way to travel through Europe is if i want to go to 4 or 5 different places such as Copenhagen, Paris, nice, Venice, and Rome. I plan on using a UA/CO award ticket but that wont allow me to go everywhere. so just looking for general opinions.

P.S. this is a trip for next summer

Depends how much time you have and what you prefer. You could buy some cheap discount airline flights between cities and take some trains and even rent a car (from paris to Nice for example) ...  what's your itinerary look like?  Do you have any pref of where you want to fly into first?

Are you a few (fit) youngsters traveling, or a family (+baby).
If the latter, I'd skip the train part.

It all boils down to the places you want to see.

Now we just need to know how long you stay will be, and what kind of a trip do you want.

well i just did paris venice and rome so if have any specific questions feel free to ask

in regards to which order its hard bec it really depends on award availablity

but what i did was fly into rome train to venice and easyjet flight to paris and home from there. i would see which direct cities have cheap flights. bec even if u can get connection with the award ticket u do not want to take 2 stops just to go from cph to fco. its worth the extra 100.

Are you the type to visit the highlights of a place and move on, or you want to immerse yourselves in the places you visit?

There are so many approaches.

Venice for like a 4 day stay including shabbos. Nice for 2-3 days and rome for like 1-2 days.  and maybe a few more days in another destination any opinions welcome. unless you have a very specific program, make copenhagen 2 days, and rome minimum 2 days.
If nice is for the beach, I cannot stick a length to it, as this is just a relaxation holiday.

I don't find Nice justified compared to the others.

Add Sorento and Amalfi and surroundings.

You can add many more places.

What do you recommend for a 2 week trip to Europe in the summer? I want to go to Venice for a shabbos and Paris for a few days... other than that I was thinking Nice, Avignon, Marseilles  - any thoughts, tips?

Marseilles, I'd skip.

You want to stick to the southern france, north part of Italy?

If you have 3 weeks I would visit the follwoing places:

must:
venice,paris,rome (sightseeing)
maybe:
amsterdam,barcelona,moscow, london

A must do is Switzerland, depending how much you like nature and hiking, decide how long you want.
If you like to chill at the beach go to southern france is very nice. YOu can stay in Nice and travel to Monaco,Cannes or just chill out.

I just went and hope to post a small tripreport soon. (Maldives is ij'h also coming)

That's what I had in mind but I am def open to suggestions.  I am taking my mother on a trip for her 50th - so I don't want to be shlepping too much ( she won't appreciate that ) so I was kind of trying to keep the flying between cities to a minimum.

As for Marseilles I thought I would rent a car in Nice and do a drive to Marseilles and Avignon for a day or two but since I've never been there yet I would love to hear your thoughts.

How much time would be reasonable to go to those places?

I'm pretty flexible which dates/time -
