Messed up on paying lease
« on: June 14, 2018, 05:15:20 PM »
Big issue here- leased a car. Made some payments a few days late as mailing address was an old location. Now I have some late payments that are majorly affecting my credit score. Any advice? People who have been in same situation?

Did you ask them to remove it based on the change in location?

You may be able to call the Credit Bureau and dispute the remark because you were never notified about it (you never got the mail)

Only payments that are 30+ days late get reported to the credit bureaus.  So you shouldn't have any problems for being a few days late.

It's also your responsibility to update mailing addresses and make sure payments are made timely.

Not such a big issue. U can relax. Just like OP said, companies don't report late payments under 30 days. Even if it's more than 30 days and it is reported to the agencies, there's still hope. I just had that, I ended up making a payment 3 months late (!) , Because of an address change issue, I put in a claim with the credit card, and followed up  with the credit agency and the delinquency was removed.

Oh and as far as the late payment fee is concerned, usually all it takes is one 30 sec phone call to have that removed :)

Op said a few days late.
You also don't make a. Few payments each a few days late due to mailing issue.
Likely he missed 3 or 4 payments and when finally realized he made that last one a few days late.

Call them up and talk to them. I helped a friend out once when they were refusing to bend, spoke to a supervisor and they cleared it up. It helped that he was able to show them that he took steps (like setting up auto-withdrawals) to prevent it from happening again.

Obviously I was offering advice to him even if it was after 30 days. Obviously it's obvious in my post.

late fee is not the issue here. The late payment is what’s bothering.

No need to lie. I just ask them to kindly waive the fee. Works like a charm
