Expedia new cancellation policy
« on: January 14, 2015, 08:00:03 AM »
Expedia now seems to be giving until the end of the next "business day" for free cancellation as part of their "free 24-hour cancellation" policy. I booked a ticket TLV - NYC on Friday morning Jan. 9 and my Itinerary said "free cancellation until Monday Jan. 12 11:59pm PST" (see attachment). Dan has noted this about Priceline during the holiday season. However, I haven't found any benefit with Priceline over Expedia. They have the exact same cancellation policy as Priceline, and they also have a rewards program (although not very valueable when booking a flight only without a hotel). But most of all, Priceline does not have the option of searching for fares for infants. When checking out they ask you how many "unticketed infants" there are. But there is no way of getting any price quote b4 entering cc info.

Tickets booked on a Friday can be voided until the following Monday. This is only when booking through a Travel Agency.

I'm assuming that you're reffering to online Travel agencies. With regular travel agents you can't even cancel within the hour of booking. And besides, even with online travel agencies, every company has their own policy. For example, Cheapoair only gives 4 hours to cancel for free etc. And in addition, even with the 24 hr policy they don't have to accept your cancellation past 24 hrs. This thing of giving until the end of the following business day is a real bonus!

All travel agencies, online or not online "can" do that. They might have different policies in regards to how it is implemented but its available.

Maybe they can. But i've never met anyone that does. Please post if you know a jewish travel agent that does, so that I can give parnasah to a yid without having to compromise on the cancellation freedom.

What is the fastest way to cancel an Expedia flight? (e.i. if my cancellation window is nearly up and I need to cancel asap).

To cancel your flight online
Sign in to view your bookings.
Select the itinerary you wish to cancel.
Select Cancel Flight under Manage Booking.

The thing is I don't see an option to Cancel Flight under manage my bookings. Perhaps it's because the flight didn't ticket yet?

I tried canceling online but the page would keep getting stuck.
I called the above number which had a wait time of about 20 minutes, and a CSR was able to cancel my flight 25 minutes before expiration of free cancellation!

Does Expedia's free 24 hour (next day) cancelation apply even if the flight is less than 7 days in advance?

From my personal experience, YES.
