Newbie here...Balance Transfers?
« on: May 19, 2015, 12:42:10 PM »
New here. Any recommended cards to use to get the best balance transfer offer? Would love to consolidate my 4 somewhat low balance cards in to one 0% interest card if possible. Any recommendations?

I will just add, FWIW, that if you are carrying a balance and plan to pay it off, the sometimes the best thing to do is use manufactured spending. You have to be so careful not to run up even more debt, but it is a way of no longer paying interest on your balance.

IOW if Card A has a balance, use Card B to buy gift cards in the amount needed to pay off Card A. Cashout gift cards, pay off Card A and now you will close with a balance on Card B. Now with Card A (or ideally Card C) pay off Card B.

Most people probably can't handle this so don't blame me if you get yourself into debt doing this. Anyway, I'm sure everyone here with half a brain already knows this and does it when needed.

That's way too complicated for most people. The slate offers balance transfers with no fee and 0% interest for 15 months so that's the best bet for most people

Yes slate is best option. besides being 0%, there is no fee. However, you can't transfer other chase balances to it.

No fee: Only within 60 days of opening the account. Confirm to make sure.

Even if chase does not allow you to transfer, would you be able to move money onto it via ms?
Are you able to swipe gc's with the slate and pay off your other chase cards with the gc's?)

What do you mean by "swipe" do you mean buy and then load to bb/serve or get MO? Well yes, it's a regular cc, but you would be forfeiting rewards that could be earned on another cc. Slate does not earn any cb/miles. In such a scenario get a point earning cc with an introductory 0% apr for purchases to do this.
