Lost Gift Cards
« on: January 15, 2015, 08:48:18 PM »
I mailed out GC's via USPS with no tracking or insurace to someone to have him load them up for me. When he received the envelope it was torn and no content inside, is there any way for me to get that money back?(I do not have any receipts or activation codes)

Most likely not. Thats why when I mail out gift cards I take a picture of the activation code just to be safe. And for high amounts I would do tracking.

I lost a Canon amex rebate card from one of the printer deals. Think Canon can deactivate it and send a new one? I know,  PUTPAC - just wondering what people think.

Maybe go to the store you bought them with the CC you bought them with and see if they can print you a receipt?

Were the activation codes in the same envelope?

When you buy VGC's in store, there's no activation codes, they get activated by the register

this is why staples will stop  selling GC with CC. YOu buy and you lose them and you go to store for refund blah blah.
STop ruining it folks!

When CVS was selling VR with CC, I had one store I was frequenting and  one day the manager has cash only sign with $500 limit. Asked why the sudden change he said some are buying them in thousands and than coming the next day or a week later  to claim refunding for losing them blah blah.

I was under the false impression that bought in-store GCs also have an activation code.  I was not suggesting he ask for a refund.  I don't know how you got that impression.  I had a situation where GCs bought online were remailed and got lost.  I successfully recovered them using the order info.  They were still not activated so I was not asking for a refund.  I was suggesting this guy try something similar, but he did not have his receipt.  So I suggested he try and get the store to retrieve a copy of the receipt. As it turns out, in-store GCs are activated at the register, so his GCs are long empty.

I went into the store and they were able to print out for me duplicate receipts. I now have where to start as far as trying to get replacement cards. When I called card services they had asked me for the card number all that is on the receipt is a 30 digit serial number. I called staples customer service asking how I can obtain the card number and they had said it is somewhere in the 30 digits but, the cs rep was unsure which numbers. Does anyone have a card they bought and can look at the serial number on their receipt to see which of the 30 digits is from the GC and let me know?

Just for the record this is in no way fraud and I am in no way asking for a refund. So just because they lowered the limit on your MS spree don't accuse others of what is not true.

The card number is not in the serial number. The issuer of the card can decipher the card number from the serial number.
I just found a new supply of forks!

Fortunately, there is a good ending to my situation. I was able to get copies of receipts from Staples and had card holder services trace the cards based on info from the receipts and will be issued new GC's. #lessonlearned

GREAT!
Were they actually already emptied and someone is taking a loss?  Or were they just lost under a pile of mail at the post office and still had the funds on them?

None were used so I'm assuming they're sitting somewhere in a postal processing facility

If the cards weren't taped dowd they probably ripped the envelope when shifted around in transit
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

When I've sent GCs in the mail, I taped them in place 6 to a paper that was folded in 3.

I just misplaced a few gift cards. I have the receipts from Safeway. What's the number that I call? It was a Visa gift card issuers by MetaBank. The number I found online is only open from 8am-5pm Central time.
