just an fyi, i just bought the Garmin Cty Navigator NT for israel from amazon, and it looks like these are fully up to date, which is nice.

i was a little scared buying vs. renting because the sdcard maps may be old (pre-Jlem rail) since they are sold by 3rd parties cheap on amazon, but i bought with "memoryc" on Jan1 and when i popped it into my garmin 265w it showed the sdcard has a file called navigator israel ny 2013! wonder when they decide to call it 2013, and whether it is truly updated or they just changed the filename and sticker on top of the sdcard, but i guess i won;t know til i get to try it in israel. will try to give a full review when i get back.

Did u need it so fast so that's why u got it from memoryc? I see memoryc is amazon prime but there is also
Another seller not prime that advertises them as 2013 maps for $15 less...
Also, u should be able to go into settings then data then maps and click info to show what maps are currently installed. See if that says 2013 and let us know. Thanks

i'm 95% sure that's where i saw the map said 2013, was funny but when i plugged in card nothing happened so i searched through settings til i found that (too lazy to go back out to car to check now). but I'm kinda surprised since i odered it prime on jan 1 2013, how could it really be updated for 2013 so fast?

I didn't chec other members, just took the one that was on the front of the website, i rarely by from 3rd parties unless i have to, and prime makes a big diff since i'm leaving next week and wanted to make sure it works (though i now see i can't really actually try it out).

The fact that they call it 2013 doesn't mean it only becomes available when it's 2013
Same idea as buying a car in August 2012 and it's a 2013 model

cars are a little different, these maps dates really matter, and when u buy u can't get update for free. i guess you are right that it could be made and sold late 2012 for 2013, but i was just happy it didn't say 2011.

Is there any difference between getting the software loaded directly onto the device vs getting the sdcard?

Was discussed by me and others on a different thread, no time to search for it right now - sometime over pesach if you want to check my posts

In short - you can set it not to take you into palestinian territories but that won't keep you out of the gush or otef yericho and stuff - look at a map before you go and figure out what roads you should and shouldn't take

nothing beats human, once you know where you want to go the GPS can assist you.

BTW a friend of my on  the way to NATBAG he drove into a Arab neighborhood his rented vehicle got stoned he hit the gas pedal and escaped,

he went to file a police report came late to the airport they refused to let him on the flight they closed the doors....., he made a B-A-L-E-G-A-N  "I came to your country, I got stoned ran for my life (he showed the police report), and now I'll miss my flight?!" they let him on

I used a garmin there (with maps plugin on sd card) and also got directed into places I didn't belong in. No better than waze.
