How tight is too tight at jfk-tlv
« on: January 19, 2015, 02:37:42 AM »
I have a delta flight leaving 1/27 at 9:23.
I am starting my trip in Toronto and using avios to get to NY.
Right now, I am booked on the 5:30 flight to JFK. Is that advisable?
I can cancel the flight, eat the $50 in taxes, and book on the 2:25 to LGA and get in at 4:00. Is that really a better idea?

I've flown that route with AA. If you're flight takes off ontime you'll get in at 7. Also you do customs in yyz so when you land in JFK you can get your bags and go straight to checkin.

Since it is not on the same ticket, Delta does not need to take responsibility for the delay. You could end up needing to buy a new ticket.

You will also need to transfer terminals in JFK. With flights on the east coast, the more time you can give yourself, the better.

If you come late from your house and miss the flight, won't they usually put you on the next with no charge?

Only if you have a good reason like flat tire or accident, something like that.

so a delayed flight should suffice
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I tried flying AA three times with my wife YYZ-JFK, and twice we were delayed over 5 hours (before my DDF days, so I didn't think to complain ;) ).
Since then, we just drive instead

Are you checking luggage?

I'm flying motzei shabbos JFK-TLV leaving at 11:45. I live in 5 towns.  It takes about 10 minutes to get there. No checked luggage. How late could I leave?

I guess the big question is if Delta would help me out if I missed the flight due to American being late or cancelled. I'm flying on a flying blue award ticket which might make it even more complicated
