This is just so much fun! basically no blackout dates ( if you do it right ) and for example, I booked a one way UA J to TLV for 70K, I get back 20K from UA, Amex books it for $4123, I pay with the Gold card, and get back 12K points from Amex, And progress towards status

Amex charges your credit card for the full fare, then credits the full amount less the taxes that UA charges. ($5.60)

You sure you're getting 12K MR? The credit isn't offsetting the charge?

Nope. Already got. The credit comes from Amex as an adjustment, not a credit. the charge goes through Amex Travel

what would that take using this promo like 500k-1M miles and you would get like 250-500k back as united miles depending on your current status level.
