I don't know what AJK source is, but IMO there is no chance that American Express will roll out the promo as is.
Why not? For the same reason they extended it, for the very same reason they might roll it out.
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Why did they extend it? My theory is because not enough people used the promo, and they wanted to give it more of a chance.

And I'm sure, more people that used the promo more they realized that this is a bad idea.

Can you even come up with a way that Amex could make money off this? Besides if people booked standard awards.

This sounds extremely expensive for Amex, any chance they're getting a significant break on AA/UA rev?

No. They pay the same amount as listed on United or American Airlines.

its not your theory, your thoughts are correct.. Amex confirmed the reason they extended it because people didn't take advantage of it, they were hoping more people would use it  ::) ::) :o :o

Maybe somehow this is a loss leader for them. Although they may lose money on the redemption, they hope you spend more on their cards to earn the MR.

I highly doubt it, their loss margin is way too high.

In that case, they might as well give 30 points per dollar spent
, you wish.

What are people so exited with this promo? Just because you can earn miles on the tickets? (and status I guess)
You can book any reward ticket available or not on UA and AA!
1. Status.
2. Earns miles.
3. Gives another option for redeeming for UA and AA
4. Easier to earn MR than UR and AA now.

Weren't reports that they officially check the availability?

+1, loss-leaders always typically have limits.

Whenever a cash back trick was posted nobody says boo but post a miles/points trick and look out.  :)

There's a bias on this site toward points, not saying it's how things should be, but definitely how things are.
