Last Borsalino I bought cost me $185. Crazy.

Even without knowing their margins, I am still shocked by their blatant price gouging.
That being said, they have pretty much cornered the market so what are you going to do?

I heard from hat box that they are going out of business and are $20m in debt

I just paid 315 for a Trionfo in Bencraft

You can go to a regular hat store (ie goorin bros), they carry nice hats for $50 range. They don't have the biggest selection of black hats but for that price... Plus the hats you'll get will be very funky (of that's your thing).

I currently have two goorin hats, although they aren't "black hats".

Side note, they made the heisenberg hat for breaking bad.

yes, the point is for a large group to spend the next few months buying hats elsewhere. If thousands of people do this for a while (or maybe Borsalinos specifically for Shabbbos), then perhaps the prices will come down.

i agree that the hat situation is ridiculous. plus the fact that they don't keep you warm at all on a cold day. we need something cheaper and more practical.

why does everyone feel the need to specifically buy Borsalino brand? there are other companies for a third the price. Fact of the matter is that Borsalino is a luxury brand name and you can expect to pay for that. Its not just hats for the jewish community, they are a large company and the orthodox style hats are actually on the cheaper end of their hats.
