That's a wonderful solution but no-one wants to be the first to start.
My weekday hat is actually a hat that I found for $25 (it's 3 years old already and still in decent condition). My Shabbos hat is a borsalino trionfo, 5 years old and in excellent condition. I do treat my hats better the most people though.

That's mean. You should treat better at least as well as your hats.

Yea. Wrap them in plastic and then put them in a box.

Many years a ago the Gerrer Rebbe was upset about the exorbiant prices of Shtreimlach, He than introduced the Spodek a cheaper alternative to the Shtreimel which all Gerrer Chasidim rich and poor wear till today

Borsalino can charge what they would like for a hat. You have a right not to shop there and find an alternative option

Like in Poland? All polish chassidim wear spodeks while the Hungarian and Romanian where streimlach.

The way I always heard the story was that the rebbe threatened that if they didn't lower the prices on the spodeks then he would walk into shul next Shabbos wearing a hat.

He was able to make a threat like that because ger is the largest chassidus by far that wears spodeks so it would have put the spodek machers out of business.  You could not pull off the same thing with one rebbe making a threat about not wearing a shtriemel.

The way I always heard the story was that he (also) said "if a regular hat is good for the lubavitcher Rebbe, than its good for me"

I used to wear a hat but never liked how it looked or felt, it was mostly habit from young age and being in yeshiva.
Wife finally told me why the heck do you wear it if you hate it? :)
Stopped wearing it 5 years ago and don't miss it in the least. Most people wear it just because it associates them with our community not because they like how it looks. Why should i shell out $300 plus for something i dont want in the first place..

Some enjoy it because it covers their hair-loss, but thats a whole different topic.

More likely that it causes hair loss...
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
