Might be a stupid question, but why isn't the Discover IT card with 2x cashback the best card out there? (At least for those who don't use most of their points, but, ehem, $&!! them for 1.3-1.8 cpp? Here you get straight 2 cents per dollar, and you get cash, no dealers or buyers to worry about, and it's totally legal, and it has no annual fee.

Am I missing something?

Citi has a similar offer now.
Fidelity has one also. Another maila of Discover is Discover Deals.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

2x is only for first year.
Oh, didn't realize. But still, even for one year, it's still 2 cents per dollar.
Citi Double Cash is also 1% cashback upon spending, and another 1% upon bill payment.

Discover it Miles gives 1.5% back on all purchases, so that's 3% for the first year.

Many of the points/miles cards come with generous sign up bonuses.   Many of the points/miles cards have constant spend bonus categories.

And there is nothing illegal to selling your points or miles by the way.  Against T&C's maybe,  but definitely not illegal. Please don't muddy the waters.

I think he means it's best just for general purchases and not for people who use their miles.

What I don't understand is according to him, how is a card that only gives 2% for a year even equal to one that gives 2% for life.

Discover has rotating categories that give 5% back. During first year that amounts to 10%.

FYI: Not sure if this was ever mentioned on any thread, but if your not someone who uses your discover card often and come across months which you have a $0 balance at closing, try this: If your purchases total less than $2, discover writes off that balance, but still prints a statement. I've done this for about a year now. I don't really use my card so just purchase stamps or amazon credit each month and get them for free! (statement must close with less than $2 for this to work)

Why is this only if you don't use your card a lot?
