Maldives VS Bora Bora
« on: January 23, 2015, 11:52:51 AM »
Has anyone here been to BOB and the Maldives?

If yes please post the Pros and cons of both locations.

I could only visit one of the above with my wife this year, and prefer to start with the #1.

Thanks

I believe this is debated here.

But, in any event, I'd take MLE by a country mile.

As I've often repeated 'round these parts MLE is better in certain regards:

1) Better premium cabins, especially F (which doesn't exist at all with BOB)
2) Easier to secure OWB with private pool
3) More options for routing, making awards easier

Oh, now I remember that the thread exists.

Besides the better Flight cabins, can you points out other advantages?

for someone who would consider (gasp) flying coach, the playing fields then become much closer
are there $500 flights you need from main land to BOB?

I've seen that, but you'r only pointing out better flights and easier to secure a OWB, but if I pay with $, which might be worth it for me because I don't want to risk flying there and not securing an OWB, and even in MLE, securing a OWB can cost $500+ with risk.

Again, better flights means not only better premium cabins, but many, many more airlines that fly there.

There are two things going for BOB that MLE does not have:

1) Varied geography. BOB has OWB, water so clear you can see 30 feet down, AND mountains and hills. MLE does not.
2) To the extent it bothers someone (probably not you), BOB = French service/culture, whereas MLE = Muslim service/culture.

And I'll just throw in to preempt the question, IC Thalasso in BOB is the only hotel where points can book you into an OWB without paying extra to secure the room, but (I imagine) AJK was saying MLE is easier to secure the OWB, because IC has very tough availability. Unless your name is Dan, of course.  :P

I'm about to book Le Meridien BOB for June, just waiting for a from DDF'rs that I'm making the right decision.

It will cost me $1250 Per night plus $85 boat transfer fee or 90K SPG points,  I think I'll go with the $1250, I wont waist SPG points I think Agree?

Free cancelation till about 2 weeks before arrival, (hope there are no hidden cancelation Fees)

Is the Le Meridien the best choice?

The Four Seasons is much more expensive, and the Le Meridien seems to be Just as good,  or am I mistaken?

Are there any other good options?

Regarding flights, I put a AA 62K First NYC-Lax, Lax-PPT in J with Air Tahiti.

Am I doing this right?

 CC @AJK

TIA

definitely not worth the waste of SPG as you can sell for more than that value

Wow,  this thread is becoming very helpful. #2 would be a game changer for me. Not scared of Muslims, but much prefer not Muslim

Can't believe this, no one here on DDF has been to both MLE and BOB? And no BOB TR?
