Iphone Gmail Group Email Trouble Shooting

I created a group on Gmail. For some reason only on my desktop will Gmail allow me to send an email to the whole group by just typing in the group name. However, on my iphone I have to manually click on all the email addresses in that group in order to send an email to the whole group..
Anyone know if there is a way to fix that?

Are you using the Gmail app or the built-in iPhone mail app

Built in iPhone..
For some reason I can't get the Gmail app to access my account....
