Depends when, i've been to lga recently a few times most of the times they've had luxury cars in the isle with no upgrade fees, they had volvo s60, audi q3, infiniti q60 and q80, merc gla, land rover discovery
True story?? Been there a LOT, never seen that.

I am over 25 so that shouldnt be a problem. I was checking out some walkthru's of the Executive areas in some airports, and I dont see any really nice cars, only in the premium upgrade section
It depends when you go.
In some locations after weekends the lots are jammed and you'll find anything you can think of.
What happens in JFK if you just hop into one of the cars in the upgrade section and try to drive out? Are the keys even in the car?
Yes, they sometimes call the check out agent and tell them to charge you the upgrade fee .
Always praying for delayed baggage.

That's correct! If you speak up to the agent and ask for something that not in the aisle and say you are EE it might work.
YMMV
+1. Worked for me in MIA to get Jaguar SUV!

Anything above mid-size gets Emerald Aisle. Says so clearly in their terms. So sometimes you can save money this way. Their website has been buggy for years.
Is a pickup truck considered a higher clas than a midsize? A lot of times it's the cheapest option

I have a reservation for a luxury car. It was actually the cheapest option. Anyway, I want one of the large luxury suv's i.e. qx80 or escalade. So my question is, assuming they wont have that in the aisle, can I get that anyway because i reserved luxury? Or will they tell me those are a different class?

They might give you a qx80 but not an escalade, and if they are willing to give you the caddy they will want a copy of your personal car insurance where it says that you're covered for rental cars also and only then will they allow you to rent it. The same goes for all the real expensive luxury cars, they told me the only way they will rent it to you without the copy of your insurance is if the car is in the isle.

If anyone has any other work arounds for the insurance requirment please share it.

In Cleveland airport I didn't see anything I liked from the emerald aisle (they basically only had standard cars and pickups. I spoke to the agent who looked up my EE status and he basically put some note on the tag that is hanging in the luxury cars and said to show to the gate agent to get it for free.

I am renting with a Chase Freedom card. Is that good enough?
Also, i wanted liability, so I am being added onto an existing policy of a family member which includes rentals. Is that ok?

The luxury cars that have this requirment are the ones that require a $1000 hold on the card. The xt5 doesn't require and bmw 5 series and up require it

No because it doesnt give you primary insurance

What about being added onto an existing insurance policy of a family member for their car(that they own). Its supposed to cover rentals as well

So how does anyone ever rent escalades from national or hertz without buying insurance? Most people use CC insurance, and they usually dont cover luxury vehicles
