Is there any twitter or website that gives alerts when there are amazing deals with hotels? (sort of like dansdeals with airfare). There used to be the price match search egine, but that program is long gone.

Sure, anytime! Yes -- It's a smart, easy app on the cell phone. When they first started, they only showcased room specials after 2pm. Now there is a segment for advance reservations as well.

those are the best. esp with points and upgrades... it's just helpful for last-minute stays if someone managed to run out of points, etc.. or for tough locations, etc...

no, not as good of a deal as points however when one is stuck and in a non-typical city, it's a decent back-up once in a while.

Glad I'm not the only one. Seems like as they've added for features (advanced booking, etc.) they lost sight of their initial premise and value.

the deals used to be only after 2pm same day, so obviously they'd have steep discounts. I used them in CA when I needed to be closer than the SLS.
But now they allow for 5-day advance, so no longer are there steep discounts.

Exactly. Someone needs to come out with a new app which goes back to doing what they used to. Great deals for the true last minute. (Unless of course they changed because it wasn't an effective model.)
