50,000 points after spending $1,000 in 3 months:
http://www.dansdeals.com/go/marriott1/

Users are reporting that Chase (ask via SM) will agree to match the 70k offer (or even 80k, apparently) if you spend $3,000.

Once you get the anniversary Category 1-5 certificate, it stays in your account, even if you cancel your card and don't pay the AF.

U don't have to transfer it u can book it from either site, and ime u can log in with the same username/password on Ritz-Carlton & Marriott.
They'll issue you the same Rewards number.

How do u have 2 free nights??
U can ask for retention, but Imho it's worth unless u wanna churn or any other reason but money wise it is a card worth keeping.
I got one when I first got the card (I think after the spend). I actually extended it twice, 6 months each, but the second time was tougher. Had a good reason so they gave it to me. The second was from having the card for a year. It does sound like it's worth keeping. Someone else was discussing moving Marriot points into United. Is that something that can be done?

Oh.
Yes but you'll loose like 60%, 100k Marriott will convert to like 40k United (an estimate) so it might not always be the best redemption, though at time one will argue it is especially if u never really use hotels.
Unless you're looking into buying one of those pkgs, for like 300k which will get u 7 nights hotel and airfare and an additional 110 UA miles (again an estimate)

Any thoughts on whether or not I can ask Marriott to extend the free anniversary night if I just cancelled the card (to avoid AF) or will that cause some sort of red flag?

Marriott isn't letting me extend the free night because my card was closed. Has anyone had success getting it extended in such a case?

Wow! First call and rep didn't want to help. HUCA and rep didn't want to help, manager didn't want to help, but 2nd level manager DID help!!! He couldn't extend the certificate bc - as the reps had said - it comes from Chase, but he was able to notate my account that I can use the cert for an additional 6 months. Sweet! bh

Anyone ever use the free cert to book room and pay out of pocket (or points) for an upgrade?
