Anyone ever use the free cert to book room and pay out of pocket (or points) for an upgrade?

-1 you can def do it with cash by dealing with the right person at the hotel. get in touch and explain what you are trying to do. They wanted to charge me the exact dollar difference between the room I booked (with a cert) and what the upgraded room would cost.

How about this. I have two free rooms I have to use by August. One is a 1-4 and one is a 1-5. Would they be willing to give me two nights at a 1-5 (meaning 5) for a little extra? Anyone know?

I believe it's from stay, you can get them to extend it pretty easily though...

Most likely not, as the hotel can't process it properly. At least that was my experience. A upgrade once you use the certificate for the right category can definitely be done, however getting them to honor for a higher category will be MUCH harder.

I haven't gotten one of these in a while.... Just want to confirm the anniversary certs are always only 6 months expiry date? I thought I remember a year... Or was that from their mega bonus offer?

A upgrade, once you use the certificate for the right category, can definitely be done.

+1 I just got upgraded at the park ridge marriott, from a standard room to a suite. I used my category 1-4 free night for the original booking.

A rep told me that very recently it moved up from 6 months to 1 year. But if you got yours when it had a 6 month expiration, it's grandfathered into that expiration and won't get bumped up to a year.

I wish they had downgrades to non-annual fee cards because it's not worth me paying the AF.

This is true.. Assuming I can sell it. So far haven't had a problem, but I am in Jerusalem, so in case I don't sell it, i won't be able to use it.

You can always just call to extend very easy.
