netTALK VoIP

Are the netTALK VoIP boxes completely proprietary, or can they be used with some other SIP service?
I've collected about eight of them thanks to TigerDirect free after rebate pricing. The problem is that although each one comes with free service for some time, the subsequent pricing may not be the best deal.
