United Airlines mistaken fare

The Department of Transportation is aware of an issue involving mistaken fares on United Airlines’ Danish-facing website.  The Department's Office of Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings has begun looking into this matter, including speaking to United and reviewing consumer complaints.  That Office will gather all the relevant facts before making a determination as to whether United is or is not required to honor the mistaken fares.

To Whom It May Concern,

Yesterday I purchased a flight itinerary from United Airlines via their website: United.com. The flights were booked, I was issued a 'confirmation number' and my card was charged for the full amount of the fare. A short time later United.com indicated that my itinerary was "confirmed and ticketed". I have attached a printout from United.com showing this, as well as a printout of my receipt indicating that the airfare was booked, ticketed and paid for.

Yesterday I was informed by United that they had voided my itinerary. This was done without my knowledge and without my consent.

As such, I ask that you please compel United Airlines to honor the ticket which they sold me, and to provide compensation for their grievance and the inconvenience which it caused me.

United is looking into an issue whereby a third-party software provider applied an incorrect exchange rate for tickets sold from the airline’s Denmark website. We have temporarily suspended sales from the Denmark website and are working to resolve the issue with the provider

I know there is a 90 day limit. I wasn't asking if there was one, just whether or not it made sense to still file. I was assuming that the outcome will be likely be whatever the DoT and UA end up deciding/agreeing to, whether or not you file, right? If so do I still need to?

Anyway, I am going to file it, regardless, so the questions is moot. Do I need to include a ticket number? If so, how do I get numbers for the flights that weren't ticketed?

That's not going to work for flights that were not ticketed.

I understand you are disappointed that we voided your reservation(s), which were based on British Pounds (GBP) and converted to Danish Kroner (DKK), or booked on the version of united.com for customers in Denmark.

As we communicated to you through email, for a brief period, there was a currency exchange rate error with a third-party software provider.  While United filed fares correctly, this software error converted fares between GBP and DKK at an incorrect rate that resulted in the price charged that was significantly lower than filed fares and fares offered through all other channels and currency.  We have determined the reservation(s) you made were affected by this exchange error.  As a result, United will not honor the prices charged at the incorrect exchange rate and have voided the reservations made during this period at no cost to you.

They probably don't know you booked via the glitch (without additional info)

sweat dreams to get reissued these tickets .  ..... based on my experience with united airlines in the past..... this is a losing issue

That's almost as bad as the guy who told me that as soon as he booked this glitch, he canceled his other tickets that he booked and was planning on flying (and was charged a fee) because he was planning on flying on this glitch instead!
