13 reasons why it's PERFECTLY FINE to buy price mistakes

DOT Update:

http://www.dot.gov/airconsumer/united-airlines-mistaken-fare

United Airlines mistaken fare

The Department of Transportation is aware of an issue involving mistaken fares on United Airlines’ Danish-facing website.  The Department's Office of Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings has begun looking into this matter, including speaking to United and reviewing consumer complaints.  That Office will gather all the relevant facts before making a determination as to whether United is or is not required to honor the mistaken fares.

To file a complaint with the DOT - http://airconsumer.dot.gov/escomplaint/es.cfm

Sample complaint:
-------------------------------------------
To Whom It May Concern,

Yesterday I purchased a flight itinerary from United Airlines via their website: United.com. The flights were booked, I was issued a 'confirmation number' and my card was charged for the full amount of the fare. A short time later United.com indicated that my itinerary was "confirmed and ticketed". I have attached a printout from United.com showing this, as well as a printout of my receipt indicating that the airfare was booked, ticketed and paid for.

Yesterday I was informed by United that they had voided my itinerary. This was done without my knowledge and without my consent.

As such, I ask that you please compel United Airlines to honor the ticket which they sold me, and to provide compensation for their grievance and the inconvenience which it caused me.

Thank you for your consideration and assistance!

Best Regards,
Yosef_S
-------------------------------------------

United is looking into an issue whereby a third-party software provider applied an incorrect exchange rate for tickets sold from the airline’s Denmark website. We have temporarily suspended sales from the Denmark website and are working to resolve the issue with the provider

We will void the bookings for those who purchased tickets as a result of a third-party currency conversion error.

same here, id be in for a class action
+1
Class action would likely be useless for us.  Just the lawyers would make money.  I spoke with a lawyer.  Since United claims there was fraud committed by selecting your country as Denmark there is really no case.
While I am not a lawyer I believe there is argument here. I can choose to pay in Syrian Pounds, Chinese Yuan, or Russian Ruble if I fancy. I did not select Denmark as my residence rather I chose to pay with their currency.

I'd be in for a lawsuit not for the money and quite frankly I didn't plan on using my tickets. In today's travel industry, the passengers are at clear mercy of the airlines. Therefore whatever rights we do have we must exercise to send a message. Additionally it would generate negative publicity for United. Please feel free to PM me if you'd like for me to participate in a Class Action Lawsuit.
Suprised nobody started a whitehouse.gov petition :-X

thankfully!
One of those iillegitimises our claim!

You are right that you can pay in any currency.  however, you had to fill out an address and select a country that address is located in.  unless you happen to have a danish address you were lying.  just because it defaulted to Denmark does not mean that you couldnt have changed it to the United States.  Unless you were totally oblivious to the country field there is no way that its not some sort of deception or fraud.

The system processed my ticket while it said USA at the top of the page. Just because I put in a wrong country doesn't mean that they have a right to cancel a ticketed flight. They admit that the Denmark site was a mistake on their (hiding behind a 3rd party vendor) part even for legitimate Denmark residents. This is like me ordering something on Amazon's UK site because it is cheaper than the US site. The internet is accessible to anyone anywhere so they should've compensated for that and if they want to have location specific discounts, should have a different system for that that doesn't allow US customers to access. Since US customers had access, the DoT should've taken up the complaint according to their own laws.

You can make up moreh heterim, but there is no denying that the wrong country was put in for the address.  While I did that myself, Im not going to try to fool myself or others in thinking that I didnt have to put in the wrong country to get it.

There's a big difference between moreh heter and the law.
Entering in a wrong address may or may not cause the Statute to ve thrown out. As Iread it, tthere's nothing in there that talks about this, it only discusses US consumers and flights passing through US cities. It's very clear that online prices that are TICKETED and charged are final. If your website has a glitch and you dont have a failsafe or other mechanism to stop sales from being completed, then it is at your own risk in order to protect consumers.

If anyone has any info on a Class Action being brought, please let the rest of us know. Since Obama's DoT is in bed with United (http://youtu.be/5YGc4zOqozo) and won't uphold the law, we need to petition the courts.

so start it yourself!

Quote
Although it sometimes helps if several people are named as plaintiffs in the suit, a single person is generally enough to file a lawsuit so long as the attorney for the class has a good faith belief that a number of other people were injured in a similar way. It generally takes at least 30-50 people with similar claims, and sometimes many more, to qualify as a class action.
