13 reasons why it's PERFECTLY FINE to buy price mistakes

DOT Update:

http://www.dot.gov/airconsumer/united-airlines-mistaken-fare

United Airlines mistaken fare

The Department of Transportation is aware of an issue involving mistaken fares on United Airlines’ Danish-facing website.  The Department's Office of Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings has begun looking into this matter, including speaking to United and reviewing consumer complaints.  That Office will gather all the relevant facts before making a determination as to whether United is or is not required to honor the mistaken fares.

To file a complaint with the DOT - http://airconsumer.dot.gov/escomplaint/es.cfm

Sample complaint:
-------------------------------------------
To Whom It May Concern,

Yesterday I purchased a flight itinerary from United Airlines via their website: United.com. The flights were booked, I was issued a 'confirmation number' and my card was charged for the full amount of the fare. A short time later United.com indicated that my itinerary was "confirmed and ticketed". I have attached a printout from United.com showing this, as well as a printout of my receipt indicating that the airfare was booked, ticketed and paid for.

Yesterday I was informed by United that they had voided my itinerary. This was done without my knowledge and without my consent.

As such, I ask that you please compel United Airlines to honor the ticket which they sold me, and to provide compensation for their grievance and the inconvenience which it caused me.

Thank you for your consideration and assistance!

Best Regards,
Yosef_S

United is looking into an issue whereby a third-party software provider applied an incorrect exchange rate for tickets sold from the airline’s Denmark website. We have temporarily suspended sales from the Denmark website and are working to resolve the issue with the provider

We will void the bookings for those who purchased tickets as a result of a third-party currency conversion error.

BUMP. I guess I win?

So who wins for the most risky award?

I had my route booked - LHR-EWR-HNL/LIH-LAX-EWR in F - and then realized that my last leg was on one of the LAX-EWR planes that doesn't have lie flat. I tried to book another ticket, but the flight I wanted to LHR-EWR was no longer available. I then cancelled my whole ticket, and the seats on LHR-EWR opened back up. I rebooked the whole thing and got myself onto lie-flat for the last leg. Do I win? 8)

Dansdeals.com was reportedly the first to find the fares, but news spread fast on frequent flier blogs such as Flyertalk.

When everyone says it wasnt ticketed, does that mean they didnt get confirmation emails or does it mean that they dont see "this ticket was ticketed and confirm on Blank time...." (what dan posted to the main site...)

They mean they weren't assigned a ticket number.

I believe I know the reason this is pricing this way. Looking at my receipt, I see something similar to what many other posters here have seen:

Airfare:   5,522   GBP
Equivalent Airfare:   56 DKK

Something clicked though on a previous post: the European and American meaning of decimals and commas is reversed.

So if I type into Google: "5.522GBP to DKK", does anyone care to guess what pops out? 55.51 Danish Krone.

There's no way this gets honored.
+1

But the more publicity this gets in the general media, the greater the chance that they will honor it.

Since I never saw a ticket number, i got nervous, but then I just thought a great idea. I went onto United and requested a receipt to be sent to my email and when it came it had a ticket number on it!

Woohoo!

I wonder... if I make a bunch of flights that are all dependent on that one flight that I booked and then they cancel it. can i demand compensation?
