That is some pretty twisted logic they came up with there.
Seems pretty straight to me

We know that people might try heroin, so let's legalize cocaine to give them a less dangerous drug.

Call a spade a spade. If the FAA required people to buy seats for their infant, less people would fly, and the aviation industry would make less money. It has nothing to do with this ridiculous whitewashing concept of they're afraid of people driving.

You don't hold your kids in a car. Why hold them on a plane over strapping them into a carseat?

This is like Donald Trump appearing on national TV explaining the reason he drives a Lamborghini is because he read the news about a Ford Focus  being involved in a fatal accident killing all passengers.

Sir, you own a Lamborghini  because you can afford it.

Not everyone gets in to an accident.
But statistically it is more likely than the plane

I will cease to have this discussion until you are able to make a cogent argument

I'm arguing with a very flawed, almost satirical logic. Hard to keep a straight face when looking down that barrel.

I was referring to the FAA logic as satirical.

I don't get what everyone is having a hard time with here. Let me simplify by giving a list of actions listed in order of safety (from safest to most dangerous):

1) Flying in a car seat
2) Flying without a car seat
3) Driving in a car seat
4) Driving without a car seat

It stands to reason that the government would rather not ban #2 if it would force families to go to #3.

You don't hold your kids in a car. Why hold them on a plane over strapping them into a carseat?
Simply put, because holding your kid in the car is way more dangerous than holding them on a plane...

I fly with lap children.  I can afford the seat, but I'd rather not.

And I know it's more dangerous, but there's a certain point where I stop worrying about dangerous.

Not dangerous. Hazardous would be the correct term.

I'm with you. According to thisFAA link from 2002-2013 the most people injured by turbulence in a year is 75. With millions of people flying the risk of injury is so infinitesimal its not something I would worry about.
