Targeted: $500 cash bonus with Capital One Spark "Business" Card
« on: February 24, 2015, 06:26:05 PM »
A colleague where I work got a snail mail targeted offer with "personal codes" for this card. I know it has problems. To begin with, it's Capital One...maybe that's enough to end the discussion, but a $500 cash bonus for $4500 spend in first 3 months, and no annual fee, is pretty tempting.  There's 1.5% cash back on "every purchase," but I really would do this just for the $500 signing bonus.
1. Is the $500 bonus worth the anticipated pulls from all 3 credit bureaus?
2. Would you include this in an app-o-rama or do it solo?
3. Do you think the "personal codes" are really personal, or could I use them?

IME, CapitalOne does not match targeted offers. A code might be different.

To me the answer is definitely no. Most sign-up bonuses I go for I value at well over 500$

Just thinking about some of my recent cards: the Ritz Carlton 140k I value at least 1000$ (according to TPG @ 0.7 cpp it would be 980$, UMPE 55k card @ 1.5 cpp is 825$, and going for both of these cards and only get 1 pull. Also, I get more value out of my points than the standard value that those calculate, so for me there is no comparing miles to cash back.

my 2 cents  ;D

There are reports of people getting approved for Capital One with a frozen Experian report. So if It were possible to do an mbm with Capital One for only 1 Transunion and 1 Equifax pull, I would definitely think it's worth it. Anybody have experience with Capital One mbm's, and can business and personal cards be gotten with the same pulls?

I had the Spark 1% Classic Business Card. I called to have my card upgraded to the 2% card and to get the $500 bonus for spending $4500 within 3 months. I explained that i didnt want to have another credit pull and wasnt using my 1% card because I had better CB offers..even on my personal Capital One I have 1.5%. The first rep said she would put in the request. I HUCA'd and it was in the system for a callback when they had an answer for me. I got the callback 2 days later saying that they couldnt do it without a new pull. 2 minutes later they called back and said that the notes say that they would make an exception for me. Today I was upgraded to the 2% card. Now will see if i actually get the bonus. Will update when spend is complete. 1/3 the way there already.
