Hi,

I am planning an LYR trip in mid-March for a Monday-Wednesday run. If I was to choose only between dog mushing and snowmobile riding for a full day trip, which would you recommend? Is it possible to do both (e.g. snowmobile all day on Tuesday and dog mushing on Wednesday morning) and still make a 2pm flight out of LYR?

Any tour operator(s) you recommend or are they all essentially the same up there?

Thanks!

That's exactly the itinerary I did with @whYME @Something Fishy and company.
We used Better Moments for all day snowmobiling and then did Svalbard Husky dogsledding the next morning before going to the airport.

Exhausting, but exhilarating!

Has anyone spent time in olso only?
Any weekend itineraries?
Recommended dog sledding companies near Oslo?

Oslo is a city, and Norway’s main value propositions are either rural picturesque villages or rural out-in-nature destinations. Otherwise, Oslo is really expensive and won’t be any more of a novelty vs Helsinki, Stockholm or Copenhagen for an American or Israeli.

If you’re going to be passing through Oslo anyway, there are a few islands in the fjords near Oslo that feel remote and are really beautiful, especially around summertime.

CoronaVirus has hit Norway pretty hard, so I’d obviously recommend staying away until that clears up.

Keep in mind things get fairly expensive in Norway. Kosher is tricky because you won’t find all that many products with Hashgachas you’ll recognize. The local community publishes a Kosher list but it isn’t upgraded very frequently and their standards might differ from yours.

Where are you planning on going and how long are you staying?

Thanks for the info, sounds like the best will be to bring our own food, do you know if Chabad sells food? Does anyone know any info about this place: https://koshernorway.no/ ?

Coming from Greece, the end of april (I know not the best timing for northern lights but this is the time that works), we are looking into Oslo and possibly bergen, for 3-4 days.

Accommodation's in this area best is to look into Airbnb, or something else?

We would have gone to the tromsø area, but doesn't seem worth it, you have any suggestions of what's a must on my bucket list over there?

If you can handle the driving and the smell of Something Fishy, then Lofoten.

I'm trying to understand why you're going to Norway, it doesn't look like you have any plan or idea. It's too late for the northern lights up north, it's too early for the fjords, Oslo is boring, etc. etc. etc.

I mean Bergen is a pretty town, but Amsterdam is nicer...

Asking for "suggestions of what's a must on my bucket list over there" is just backwards.

I don’t believe Chabad of Norway caters to tourists in this way. FWIU the service you linked to is certified by the local community. Note the listed prices, not cheap.

That area? Not sure what you mean by that. Both Sweden and Denmark have more established Kosher-observant communities and broader availability of kosher food in Stockholm/CPH compared to Oslo.

The Folk Museum in Oslo is nice to visit, and there’s a Viking museum not far from there.

Regards from Norway, thanks for all of your help.

I spent a few days enjoying all the different fjords around Bergen, drove up and down the scenic routes. I could've spent weeks here, the beauty is just stunning.

Here's a few pics from my trip

I’ll let others comment on what’s most scenic driving from Oslo, but keep in mind the costs of renting a car and gas, and other costs, as Norway is pricy. Also keep in mind the Norse Atlantic flights might not start when they hope to, so don’t book things where you can’t get your money back if your flights fall through (or expect to pay much more flying SAS or getting to OSL another way).
