Go do an M$ charge for the entire credit limit.  When they deny the charge, call the them up, ask for a supervisor, and complain how they embarrassed you, how you have the credit line for a reason, how you pay an AF for a reason, why didn't AMEX deny the charge.  Then get the miles credited for the failed transaction, and the AF waived.
Do you guys always ask for bonus points whenever a transaction doesn't go through? Feel odd asking because at the end of the day, they're doing it to protect us in case someone stole the card...

You're joking right?  The bank is liable for fraud unless you can be proven to be grossly negligent.

When the CSR's tell me they declined a charge to "protect me", I cut them off and ask them to please not lie to me and remind them who is truly liable (the bank).  The bank's actions are never to protect you, always themselves.  Then you point out I have xx,xxx limit to use, I pay an AF for the privilege, you embarrassed me, you inconvenienced me, and AMEX gladly accepted the charge Because AMEX always does).

I've gotten Barclays, Citi, Chase and Disco to all give me the rewards for denied charges.  And I got Barclays to waive the Aviator AF AFTER they gave me 15,000 courtesy miles.

I guess you learn new things every day. Never thought of it that way, but I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future. Had some MS charges declined on two separate Chase United accounts over the past few days so going to try and call them and squeeze some miles out of them.

Update: Swing and a miss. Guy basically said "I doubt it was that embarrassing because most people know that banks are very careful with fraud, so I'm not going to give you any bonus miles."

For the record, I wouldn't do this (right now it's still over my ethics meter), but
A) Pillan is 100% right.  The banks don't give a **** about your ***. They only care about fraud because the government put them on the line for it.
B) You gotta be a good talker if you wanna get stuff out of the CSR's.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

I'm usually pretty good at that. Guess you can't ALWAYS win. And plus, the charges did end up going through and from what Pillan said, it seems like he had success doing this when the charge didn't end up going through (or before he eventually successfully put it through).

To me, there's no ethical quandary.  If you don't fulfill your end of the bargain (paying your bill or AF) the bank will hammer you.  If they don't fulfill their end, I hammer them.

Frontline CSR's are trained to say "No", or "That's not possible".  Supervisors are trained to solve problems.  To me it's no different than HUCA'ing a retention offer.

I never give them a chance for the charges to go through, I pull out another card and carry on.

Take note, I wont do this if I'm trying to run an Ink+ for 6 Staples or Office Max transactions in a row.  More if I am hammering the mall or something.

Just called to have the annual fee waived. After having waived the fee, the account specialist said they just had a recent decision together with AA to give additional incentives to cardholders, they are planning on sending out coupon codes for some % off paid and/or miles tickets.

Just realized that the offer that I signed up under this time last year (50k after first purchase) didn't have the one time 10k bonus after paying AF on anniversary, but there were other offers out there that had that. Anyone have success calling them and asking them to match?

Can you get free bags on AA flights if you have this card but booked with diff card?
Also, do they still offer AA lounge access? (I know they did with USAirways card...)

Yes, just make sure your FFN is attached to the res.

No lounge access.

I was targeted for the "spend $500 for 3 months, get 15k AA miles". Does that post automatically on the 3rd statement?

DW got this for Nov, Dec, Jan, and it posted after the Feb statement (Feb 23, posted today) closed.

I just reread your original post, didn't realize it posted on month 4. I guess I'll need to wait another month for them.
