My intention is to stick up for the US. The current president represents the US. Take a shot at either and you are not going to like what I have to say.
I admire your patriotism. (I am 100% serious.)

I just don't understand why certain members bash the US every chance they get.

I didn't vote for him but he is my/our president. There are many threads where it is stated the US does not do enough for Israel. Just knowing that the US is on your side you would think would be enough.

Back in the 70s the young state was having huge economical issues. After one disheartening cabinet meeting one of the ministers suggested that Israel start a war with America and when America will inevitably win the war they all of Israel's economic issues will become America's problem. Golda Meir didn't like the idea. She said "But what if we win? What will we do with the whole big America?" :P

being on your side is nice but if it hinders them in protecting themselves how is that enough?

All the aid and knowing the US would step in to help if they were attacked I think qualifies as protecting Israel at some level. OK help me out here. What is Israel's end game and how do they accomplish it?

How about just real stiff sanctions... Which actually might work in a country like Iran that has a sizeable modern population

after you get attacked by a nuclear bomb there's not much aid needed. I'm assuming they have a way to stop their production that would require a little more than sanctions. Cant say for sure as I missed the last few intelligence briefings.

The president constantly downplays the situation as a normal conflict, you cant treat cancer like a cold. Cemo isnt fun but you have to take drastic action.

Again I dont claim to be an expert in foreign policy, but this is my opinion.

Didn't Achnenjad lost popularity bc the ppl didn't like how his posture was causing them to get squeezed by sanctions
