I should add, when I booked it, I asked for a particular JFK-LAX flight that was available in C and the agent offered me F on a later flight, (I told her I wanted a later flight, but this is the latest one I see) she said very clearly that domestic F is permitted on an international C award, and she confirmed that it still priced as C, 62.5k. I confirmed over again that domestic F is permitted on intl C award, she told me at least 3 times, I might have recorded the call.

its really all based on the luck of the draw, in terms of which agent you get.

i was finally able to get them to adjust the first leg back to F, so alls well that ends well i guess, but the amount of nerves expanded in the process just doesnt make it worth it at the end.

not sure if the fact that i filed a DOT complaint helped at all or not.

Did you use the offshore line?

Glad it worked out.

no, just called the regular AAdvantage line.

spoke to supervisor yest, who was willing to help but didnt know how to do it (supervisor mind you). kept telling me that the flight is overbooked in F, even though i was seeing saver award availability in F online on AA.com.

than called early this morning before the flight, and another supervisor was able to make the change.

gloated too early it appears. upon checking in, my family member was put back into J, even though i had a ticketed confirmation from this morning in F.

This just ridiculous at this point.

Time for DOT.
Though you are probably sick of the issue already.

whats even more odd is that when i check the status of the reservation online, it shows up now as "on request" even though the flight left already. i didnt know it was possible to board the plane without a fully ticketed reservation.

Seems like there is a glitch with AA that allows you to book into F on a 3 cabin plane when part of the itinerary is booked into domestic F on a 2 cabin plane for the biz price.

But OP didn't have that...

Last month i ticketed the following LAX - TLV award flight on AA:

LAX - JFK - AA First class
LGA - PHL - US Economy class
PHL - TLV - US Business class
2015: 116K bkd | 1.6M brnd | F: OZ,NH,AA,EK | J: UA,CA,TK,DL,TN,AF,VA | LIH,NRT,ROR,PEK,CNS,BOB,MEL,TLV & Pacific Hopper

Regardless, the glitch is there.

Ive boarded without being ticketed on AA flight. Booked the award ticket about 2 hours before the flight. Got to airport an hour later and not ticketed yet. Agent printed me a boarding pass. Took flight (after quick shower in the LAX lounge ;))

Best part- never had the miles for the flight deducted. Or the $5.60 tax.  ;D

Seems like there is a glitch with AA that allows you to book into F on a 3 cabin plane when part of the itinerary is booked into domestic F on a 2 cabin plane for the biz price.

The glitch isn't that if you already have F on a 2 cabin plane you can also get F on a 3 cabin plane, it's always when you have an intl C award, domestic sectors are allowed to be in F since most flights don't have C, so therefore on a 3 cabin plane, you'll get away with F as well - sometimes...

Officially the rules don't allow that, but the system doesn't catch it and most agents aren't even aware of it. Take a look at the notes on such a reservation (JFK-LAX in (3 cabin) F and LAX-HNL in (2 cabin) F):
Code: [Select]
65.H-UM37X5A AA - 1 FREE BUS/FIRST CLASS TKT
 66.H-N.AMERICA  TO/FROM  HAWAII
 67.H-ONE-WAY FLEX AWARD
68.H-BUSINESS CLASS-ON FLTS OFFERING 3 CLASSES OF SVC,
69.H-FIRST CLASS-ON FLTS OFFERING 2 CLASSES OF SVC.
Regardless of those rules, the pax flew F successfully!

My experience was with the same route.
