I read through most of the thread but apologies if I missed this.

I purchased this hot plate on Amazon about 1.5 years ago and love it. I never checked for UL certification (I didnt even know what it was before yesterday) but the second Shabbos was over I checked and saw it did have it. I also always use in on a Shabbos clock.

Most people use the hotplate for cholent, and from after the seudah till tzes normally there's an adult up somewhere near the kitchen. A shabbos clock seems like overkill.

seems that some people use the timer to make it turn on at 10am and then they place items on it. Halachic sha'alos could ensure as people are describing their safety habits since this tragedy, however most cold wet food from the fridge cannot be placed higher than yad soledes unless more specifics are in place......

Quote from page one of that Amazon review: "I've used them once to keep pizzas warm at a party. I felt they worked well. However, I recommend that you put a note in front of it to caution your guests that it is hot, to touch. Unfortunately, I forgot to do that. Don't let kids near it."

would it be halachically ok to have your cholentpot-hotplate go off at 12 at night and go back on at 7 in the morning?

(And would it ruin the cholent?)

I use it for Friday night as well. Keeps the food warm even after coming out of the oven. Also used for shabbos day in addition to Shalosh Seudos

Not sure what your question is... I set it before Shabbos where it is on. It goes off around 11PM, on in the morning off again etc.

As my father told me he heard from r' belsky technically you are allowed to put food on top of the cholent however there is almost always an issue (cooking some liquid)

perhaps his question is what can be placed onto it during Shabbos. Wet kugels from the fridge are an issue if the plate gets as high as it says it gets.

I have a Chefman (Jewish brand) hot plate  that says that it's made from only UL-approved components but I don't see any stamp or certification.
So pay close attention to see if the hot plate is actually approved (see pic) and not just a figment of the manufacturers imagination.

Visibly Jewish

+100. Also, the Oster has UL engraved into the back of the hot plate.
