I want to comment about the ladders and other safety measures but don't think this is the time or thread for it, it feels like it minimalizes the loss.

So sad, so tragic BDE.

I have two stairways leading out of my house. One at the front, and one at the side.
Then you don't need a ladder.
I just found a new supply of forks!

The most effective time to talk fire safety is when people are shaken up over hearing such stories. If it helps 1 person go out & purchase smoke detectors for his house it was well worth it.

Its important to know that in the kitchen usually there is some carbon monoxide so if your detective starts from time to time then its probably to close to the kitchen.  So dont take out the battery (as i used to do) just move the spot and it will help that it shouldent ring for nothing.

I am so sick over this.

Please go check the wires on your warming trays.  Make sure they are not exposed. The connection on mine is not so good - it's going straight in the garbage.
Please elaborate. What exactly should we be checking?

While you are at it, why not install automatic sprinklers in every room?

My point is, there is a reasonable amount of precautions to take in the event of a fire. Ladders are an unreasonable precaution.
I beg to differ. Do you have children?

No words  Hashem should just give the family strength to continue on with their lives!

It gets to a point where you can't even cry and BDE doesn't cut it, all the usual responses just sound cliché.
