I stiill don't undrstand which wiring exactly are you referring to?

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. The wire, where it connects to the hot plate should be secure, not loose.

What alternative can we use in place of hotplates?

Oven in shabbos mode?
Though that only helps for one meal and for food left in from before shabbos...

If the oven is on in shabbos mode you can't close the door with food in it on shabbos.

I want to comment about the ladders and other safety measures but don't think this is the time or thread for it, it feels like it minimalizes the loss.

So sad, so tragic BDE.

So start a new thread.
+1. New thread should be made and threads moved imo. Insensitive

You can 't close the door all the way.  I open the door then put the self clean lock on, and when I close the door it doesn't close fully, so it's fine.

People who dislike religion will always blame religion for any negative event that occurs, and will always discredit religion when something positive occurs. This is nothing new, and has been going on for soemthing like three thousand years.

That FB post is nothing. Have a look around at websites like DailyMail and Gawker, and you will see what hate looks like.

Just a side thought: I don't dislike religion but I do blame things we've added to religion for certain things.  And unfortunately you hear stories of people doing things that are generally accepted as unsafe because of 'religion'. I don't think this story fits into that though.

(I don't have much experience with hot plates specifically or know if they're intended to be used for such long periods etc. )

Meanwhile, mods... Maybe we can move this discussion of safety etc to a separate thread?

Just because it's worse somewhere else doesn't change the fact that it should be removed it's disgusting and has no place there
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I think it should be removed as well.
The discussion is a good one to have but not the way it's been going and not there.

Worth posting something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PC5S0PA/?tag=cl03f-20
With quotes from here: http://www.nfpa.org/safety-information/for-consumers/fire-and-safety-equipment/smoke-alarms
Or not worth the inevitable backlash?

With the right heartfelt message of using this time as an important reminder about fire safety and the sad loss ...I'd post it.
You can close the comments section.
I'd keep the post brief. But so many people are reading your site, if the reminder helps them to check their devices that's a great thing.
