Sprint upgrade- What phone to get
« on: January 20, 2011, 01:32:16 AM »
I'm eligible for a new phone, which phone do you recommend.
I want it to be free. I don't use internet on my phone, and therefore I don't want a phone that will force me to buy a data plan with it.
I understand that sprint will be adding $10 to every smartphone (including the centro) on January 30 (as has been discussed in the other thread), so will I be able to get any free smartphone (without a data plan) so that I should be grandfathered in?

So once again, I want it to be free, and the best possible phone out there, without requiring a data plan?

I currently see the Samsung Restore, Samsung Reclaim, and the LG Remark, as my only options. Am I correct? Which of these is the best? Or do I wait for something else?

Go ahead and ask me questions if you want to get a better idea what might be suitable for me. thanks

non of those are "smartphones" for purposes of the $10 fee, so no 'grandfathering' necessary. there are few smartphones that don't require data; centro, some blackberries, windows phones (tp2, intrepid) non of which are free- all cost $50-100+ on upgrade

I don't see the centro on their website, only the palm pixi, and that one requires a data plan

8830 (no longer available from Sprint), Curve 8330 (might not be available either) and possibly the Tour 9630, though I'm not sure.

'Samsung Restore, Samsung Reclaim, and the LG Remark'

From these 3 free ones, which is the best?
Or is there another one that was free or probably will be free soon, that I should wait for?

I'd go with a Sammy over an LG any day.

my srint plan is elegible for free upgrade,  i have now the bold 9650 and im happy with it, so i dont want to change it
what i want to do is take the phone, upgrade my plan for another 2 years in contract, and then sell it on ebay
so my questions is. which phone should i take? it might be worth paying sprint maybe 100$ more or less, if ill make more money by selling it.or i should stick to any free phone?
so if any one of you did the same shtick lately, which phone did you take, or in other words from which phone would my profit be the biggest? by reselling it.
thanks for your help

If you have a current, legit, published plan, find one of those dealers that get you a better deal than Sprint's on upgrades. Methinks there are still some on eBay (most don't do upgrades, but some do).
