This thread is too frustrating to read through, just want to say that I'm all for self reflection- I just don't understand why this "self" reflection needs to be done in a way that seems to put it on everyone else here as well...reminds me of the Elul thread.

Tough on them!
Is amex ethical in making millions of people drown in debt and make them pay high intrest by luring them with points/promotions?

I say we take what's ours to take.

I'm not sure who your responding to.
Nobody here is discussing whether Amex deserves to be punished or not.

Putting ethics aside, we can all agree that this hobby takes up a LOT of our time which could've been used to launch a new business of your own and potentially make much more money in the long run.

That's where all the details come into play.
What you're doing for a living.
How much time you're spending on this.
What you're getting out of it.
Your financial situation.
Your financial habits.
Etc.

All of the above doesn't make a difference at all.

Whatever your financial situation/habit is, if you could've made more money by running a legitimate business during the time you spend on DDF, you're doing something wrong.

As for the question of how much time you spend on DDF, well,  everyone who's IN the game spends a LOT of time.

Most of us, myself included are not even aware how much time it is.

1. Takes a good amount of money to put into
2. Won't necessarily make as much as you are now
3. Not everyone is a computer person
4. Many already do.

I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone. And I happen to agree with you that there are for sure people on the site who could be using their 'game' time better.
But not everyone. I don't think you can say that as a statement across the board.

Of course the above is not for everyone. I personally can't see myself driving for Uber.

Someone just made it sound like there's a shortage of ideas. I wrote some random jobs off my head.
There are tons of other options.

The economy is generally back on track and people shouldn't let the opportunity fly by just because "they have no ideas" and are too comfortable pushing time on DDF (or any other online forum for that matter).

many ppl on ddf probably already have jobs that provide enough and dont need to go driving for uber or other things to make more

Most people have a job and a hobby.

Job makes money, hobby costs money.

This hobby can make or cost money. But its silly to say to get a 2nd job instead of enjoying a hobby.  People need an outlet.

That's like a school saying not to take a recess because you could be using the time to learn more.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I don't think JoeCha is actually talking about those people. His statements are general but it seems to me at least that he is talking about those using DDF as their source of income to an extent. Those without jobs perhaps? Without jobs that support them "enough" maybe?
Because if he's talking about everyone then yes, for some this is a hobby.
