Hey guys just wanted to relate my experience because it could help you. We live in Clifton NJ and cleaned out our garage and the municipal trash pickup only allows a total of 3 items so we had to find a trash hauler. We called 1800 Got Junk and they came to give us an estimate - guy showed us the rate card and for the stuff we had (6 bags, and some assorted furniture etc) they wanted $478. That morning I had also gone on Craigslist and shopped around - most local guys wanted $125-$150 so I told the GotJunk rep that and he was like "yeah, we are one of the more expensive companies" and understood where we were coming from so I saw him out. A few minutes later he rang our bell and said he'd be willing to take $250. I told him no because the others wanted max. $150 and that was my final offer - so he accepted it. After they picked up the stuff he drew up an invoice/receipt. I kind of felt bad thinking maybe I should offer these guys $10 in tips but held back for the moment. He shows me the invoice and it says $125 on it (i.e. he cut me a $150 deal so he could pocket $25 in cash) so in reality he made his own tip
Amazing how much wiggle room there can be - most people probably just pay what they ask.
