My friend sent me this barcode and said him and his friends were getting free medium slurpees all day with it.

they actually did
It's been used by more then one person at a time in the same location...
It's YMMV, some people have been asked to show the actual app with the coupon countdown...
It's actually been around for a few months but probably won't last now that it's here.

This is limit one per customer and only for people who sign up. It is completely and morally wrong to use this. Is it really worth it just for a medium slurpee

You can use it as many as you want, as long as the cashier doesn't stop you, all that he has to do is scan the barcode from your phone.

$1 every time, use it a few thousand times and you can start supplementing your income on Slurpees.

No one is asking you to use it or forcing the 7/11 rep to accept it.

How does it work? Do you download and open the image, or does it work by just opening this thread and scrolling to the picture?

You don't have to download the image but to be able to find it easily whenever you want to use it just save the image to your phone and open it to full size when you want to buy a slurpee, the cashier scans the barcode on the picture and you take your free slurpee.

Technically it would work if you just print out the picture and let him scan your paper...
