Chase sapphire or Amex?
« on: April 26, 2015, 12:38:13 PM »
Hi, I opened my first credit card in February & got approved for a freedom & last week I went into chase & they told me that I'm pre-approved for the sapphire. My question is, should I apply for the sapphire or try first a different card (i.e. Amex) or non of them since it's still too early from my first credit card application & might hurt my credit to have 2 hard pulls in such a short period of time?
Thanks!

You could apply for either one or both.

Tnx, I'm new to the forum so I'm not familiar how to use it. How can I apply for both at once? & if I do end up applying for Amex, which card would be the best as a first Amex?

Be sure it was the Sapphire Preferred, not the regular sapphire. The regular one only gets double points on dining (not travel), it can't transfer points to partner programs, doesn't get the 20% back when booking travel with Chase, and I don't know of any signup offers. (I'm not sure about ForEx fees, but I'm pretty sure it has them, CMIIW)

Do they offer the non-preferred in-branch ?

Its never been offered to me, but I also dont know when the last time I spoke to someone at a chase branch. I know of a friend who got it (I believe) in branch. I thought it was a card that can be applied for unlike the United (Rewards, I think its called) free card which can't be applied for only downgraded to, but I don't see it on the Chase website, which I'm almost certain I did in the past, so its possible that its not offered anymore.
