Not sure if this is on topic enough for this thread, but I'll give it a shot:
Is there a heter to buy GCs on Chol HaMoed (especially if it involves actual melacha, e.g. driving) if it's not a) for Yom Tov use, and b) to save yourself from a loss?
As I understand, to engage in business to make a profit is assur unless it's a "rare opportunity for profit", as Rabbis Zucker and Francis state on page 100 of their "Chol HaMoed". Is it reasonable to say that free GCs at OM/OD are a "rare opportunity for profit"? Even if this sale is rare, I believe that the amount of profit also needs to be taken into account. Obviously, my point is not to pasken, rather to bring the shailah to the public's attention.
Moadim L'Simcha to all!
