I am looking to buy a cheap drip brewer to make myself one cup of coffee each morning. I'm looking to spend as little as possible. Is there an advantage to buying a $20-30 mr coffee or black and decker electric brewer instead if the $5 one cup pour it over the cup brewer? Does it taste any different?
If u do it right the 5$ is perfect. If u don't want to deal with that just get a French press

The pour over is so much better than those cheap machines. Don't spend the extra $15 when you can get a better cup for cheaper.

i have a electric urn which i always leave running anyway so that is not a big deal.
i have no clue what coffee being "too hot " means, so ill have to leave that for now.
And the other options like a french press which i just googled seems like its a extra step then i want to be busy with, when i just want a quick cup of joe

yes, we got a simple french press for pesach this year. Plus, for K-cups you can grind your own beans on pesach and fill those K-Cup inserts into your Pesachdike keurig.

if u just want a quick cuppa Joe then use taster's choice. Otherwise French press is the way to go IMO

what's the extra step -- it's simply placing the grinds and then the water. Can do on YT, and possibly in a simple way kli shlishi on Shabbos... It's the coffee-grinds clean up that's the only extra step.

Borer?

just pour out the water/coffee that you want to drink. It's selecting the good from the bad = allowed. Especially if you leave some good behind.

Also if it needs a filter it would constitute borer even if it is good from bad. See mishna brura beginning of 319

Coffee should be steeped at 195-200 degrees. A kumkum makes the water hotter than that, but an urn should be about the right temp. If you're doing pour over methid, spend some time to learn the technique (soak, pour half, pour other half) and it will come out better than an auto drip.

For shabbos the two best methods are Turkish and cold brew.
