Idea for Points/Miles search engine
« on: April 09, 2015, 02:28:00 PM »
I want to create a website that puts everything in one place.

Search award availability. Keep track of all your mileage balances. Keep track of promotions within specific rewards.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1659406606/points-miles-website

This is my idea, what do you think?

That there should be some difficulty in searching. If not, those precious few seats available sometimes would be grabbed up.

Obviously it would track the availability.

I'm saying a centralized search engine is not necessarily a good thing...

I figure it's alot of work, not worth it to be busy with the project unless I'm getting big money.

1. show me the actual costs of how you get to 120k , and then we can talk, until then I stand by my statement that your being dishonest about costs, since:
I figure it's alot of work, not worth it to be busy with the project unless I'm getting big money.
It's one thing to make a profit, but to go in saying you want to make over and above the actual costs of the project (or rather, NOT saying that on the kickstarter page), is dumb and maybe even against kickstarters rules.

To build a good search engine like that costs more than 120k. It's alot of work, with web design the cost is based on the amount of work, that's what I feel is the amount I want in order to build the site. I think that is fair.

Based on what?  You gotta have solid support for the costs. whats your background? most campaigns already have prototype and solid foundations, not just an idea.

Should I remove it from kickstarter and ask for less?

If most of the cost is hiring a web developer, take one in as a partner. If most of the cost is paying yourself, you shouldn't have to pay yourself much (if at all) if your goal is to create a profitable business. Why do you expect that people will comfortably fund your endeavor to make more money for yourself, especially without solid support for your costs? Where is your sacrifice? Is all they get out of it membership?

Also, have you factored in the legal issues of starting this site? The airlines definitely won't be supportive of it, and you very well might end up Skiplagged #2 and have to start a new kickstarter to fund your legal fees.
