Did anybody see the moon tonight in Lakewood? It was literally the biggest and most orangey I've ever seen in my life!
I wish I could've taken a picture of it but it's too low down and I can't find it anymore.

(Yes I know the size is an illusion)
It is not always only an illusion since sometinmes it is closer sometimes further.

He said it was 'too low down'. That's pretty clearly the moon illusion.

Yeah but that happens every full moon. If it was larger than usual it would be distance which is a super moon. I don't think there was one last night but maybe it was closer.

We're only at quarter moon, so super moon has nothing to do with it (next super moon is not until December). The lunar perigree was July 13, so I doubt apparent size was much of an influence. And yes, the moon illusion can occur at any time (not full moon specific), but I'm not sure why that takes away from him noticing it this time.

I keep on hearing from people that heat from burns can stay for a very long time (I've heard someone claim 8 hours). Is this true? How is it physically possible for heat to stay inside a body for such a long time? Even assuming the person was heated up in an oven at 350 degrees, I've never seen chicken/meat being hot after 8 hours.

From personal experience I would say no.

Perhaps if you smear the wrong things on it, it can seal the pores and that can keep the heat in instead of cooling it off.

i have actually been told this by a doctor. i had a burn that still was burning after a few hours. He said you first have to get it to cool down and then apply cream or ointment.

Our bodies don't cool down to room temperature when we are alive the same way a chicken would when dead.

After a few hours!? When you say burning do you mean hot or just painful and inflammed? How did you burn yourself?

If anything I'd say our body cools down better and quicker.

From what I remember from elementary it's because of ATP or something like that :)
What I meant to say is that an alive person has the equivalent of liquid cooling but at 98 degrees. As opposed to something that's dead which has no circulation.

When the skin is burned, your body responds immediately by increasing blood flow to the area. This makes the skin look red and feel warm to the touch. Your body also releases histamine, which triggers the inflammatory response behind the pain and warmth.

I would say warm and painful but not hot. It was a boiling sugar burn. Quite nasty.

If someone is so disgusted by cockroaches (or any other bug) that they don't like even being near one and will run away from them, is that considered a phobia?
