A: a crisp $50 bill
B: a $50 check
C: a $50 gc to a judaica store

A, IMO. You're giving him the most options on cashing in on it.

Of course, there's option E that you didn't mention: a crisp $100 bill.  ;)
Happy Chanukkah!  :)

Are you a rebbe?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Why do you say that? If the rebbe is interested in something from a judaica store, he'll use your cash for it. If he wants to pay his grocery bill, he'll be happy you have him cash instead of a gift certificate.

Giving petty cash just isn't classy, IMHO.

You can always get away with giving a GC. Now, lets say you'll need to give $180 cash for him to be satisfied with the gift, if you give him a $180 GC to somewhere it will seem a bit over the top.

Basically, when giving a Gift Certificate you can get away with giving smaller amounts. So now that you only want to give $50, it should be a Gift Certificate.

Classy shmassy, why not just give the cash and let it be useful

A $50 bill is petty? Petty cash is $20 & below, $50 & $100 bills are too cool for the petty category.

So confused

You guys did a great job summarising the pros and cons though.

- I'm not into the judaica gc. It's nice, but I'm pretty sure he would appreciate not being restricted to buying a judaica item..

I vote for the VGC - It's classier than cash and just as useful.

Wrapping paper, cards, cellophane, baskets, etc. etc. When you are gifting something, you always add a couple bucks to class it up.

I would think you'd get 5x points to cancel that out
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.
