I'm not going to chime in on OP's question, but I will say this is something we should be more careful about: privacy when lending/renting things/places. Not just this kind of computer snooping, but surveillance cameras when someone is using your house, baby monitors left in a room when you have guests, etc.

Either disable them or be very clear upfront what is being recorded.

If OP happened to see screenshots of someone googling medical stuff, logging into their bank accounts, or any number of private things - and here were a number of things seen before the objectionable content - this is a very different conversation.

I believe the filter blurs out any thing the user might want kept private, like bank accounts...
ETA:Why are screenshots black? You may see some black screenshots on your email report or in the Victory app due to certain apps:

  • Banking apps: to protect your personal financial information, banking apps may produce black screenshots.
  • Streaming services: to protect their copyrighted material, streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu may produce black screenshots.
  • Other apps: to protect your data, other apps (that require authentication) may produce black screenshots.

That covers banking, but not other internet use. Could be something as simple as googling an embarrassing medical condition. And if streaming services are blocked but OP was able to see that he was watching basketball, he might be using illicit streaming services which often have inappropriate ads and pop-ups. Could be the guy needs to be taught about ad block and the like and wasn't actually trying to visit those sites.

Without googling it, have you ever heard the phrase "cruse of oil" before?

Yes, but I work with words for a living, so not an indication to anyone else.

This is a perfect lesson. You work with words so you know what it means and the people who grew up in Chabad Houses know what it means because people who work with words use fancy words that their readers don't understand. Yes, cruse of oil sounds better to a writer than jug or jar, but if the reader doesn't understand it, there's no point in writing it.

Cruse of oil sounds like a new startup idea for discount cruise experiences on board an oil ship

Yes. I have to spend hours going back and forth with authors convincing them to use a word other people don't have to look up. They tell me it is more sophisticated. I tell them that when someone reads a sentence, he is supposed to understand it on the first try. It is not gemara.

I submitted a poem to the Washington Post Invitational, may it rest in peace, when the ran a poem contest "using only the 1000 most commonly used words:"
I fix writing of others, it isn't that fun.
I often change long words for a shorter one.
They don't really like this, they might be mad,
but maybe the reader's head won't hurt so bad.

Not my finest work, I admit, but the word choice was limited...

In 8th grade I had to do a Thesaurus Skills assignment, which was supposed to show that using a thesaurus makes you sound smarter. This is what I did:

and here's the original

Small people talk about other people.
Average people talk about things
BIG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS.

Is there a thread on South Bend, Indiana?

Wondering if there is a place to stop for lunch while driving through.

Anyone know if/what is available in South Bend? Will be driving through later this afternoon/evening.
