What's with all the judgement and holier-than-thou attitudes about what gets people to learn? Three threads recently (that I've seen) all have similar posts questioning incentives or entertaining shiurim. Why can't we just appreciate how many people actually learn these days?

Uh, those aren't Airpod competitors. They're made for air travel, when you need to block external noise, or make phone calls in noisy places.

Honestly its nothing about the headphones, they are great. I'm just really not a headphone guy. I cant seem to figure out when I would want use them. They're not good for anytime that I want to sleep or am lying down, which includes my bed, couch or on a plane. They're not good for anytime I am out of the house. So when am I really using them. The best part is that the my Airpods are perfect for all the scenarios I listed, and the noise cancellation works really well.

Interesting. Do you have a review of these, searched DDMS but didn't see anything. Have you ever owned Airpods to actually compare them?

I get that. In a perfect world, none of it would be necessary. Fact of the matter is, though, that a lot more Torah is being learnt because of such programs. You want to remind people that the learning is the ikkar? Go ahead. But to belittle those who are learning more as a result of these programs or eccentric maggidei shuir? This is Torah?

ETA: in the examples you gave, gashmius being added isn't where they went wrong. Light refreshments by a shiur or farbrengen isn't a modern invention. A culture of lavish excess and one-upmanship is likely more to blame. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.

There's a middle ground, and with proper guidance and leadership, it can be done properly. Still doesn't explain the attitude of looking down on those who aren't self-motivated enough to learn lishma all the time.

its a new year! and with that comes a new 200$ to spend at dell! im having lots of difficulty deciding what items i *need* so i need some help
heres what i bought the last 3 times:

nice printer,
megaboom3 speakers,
and 200$ towards a laptop.

In addition, I have the following pieces of mishigas:

airpods (rules out all headphones/earbuds. yes even the bose ones that dan loves)
blink doorbell
a 2nd monitor
iPad/phone (why am i telling you all this?)
projector w screen
wireless mouse

I dont have wifi in my house so all those router things are out.
im not a gamer
no need for a webcam
or a smart watch of any sort

having said all this (phew!) i put a few things into my cart that i frankly dont feel i need but its just something i dont yet have.
they are:

smart thermostats

power banks

indoor security cameras

Or should I get another megaboom3 speaker so I could connect them together?? I honestly don’t even use the one I have that often, but you know..
can someone help me decide why i might need any of these items?

but even more: if theres something fantastic that i simply forgot all about, please tell me!!

I don't know of any year-round places, but there are "pop-ups" around times when many people go away. If a year-round place exists it would be in Israel.

Yes. Especially over holidays when there's demand.
But it's very expensive.
