IIRC, Airtags’ range is ~30 ft when fully charged, and less when battery is lower. With searchers presumably calling his name, wouldn’t he almost certainly be found as soon as a searcher is within 30 ft?

This could depend on weather conditions as well if he would be conscious. Also, you’d be able to strap an apple device to a drone and fly it around.

A unique idea but I don't think very practical.
I'd imagine it takes a good few seconds for a device to get tracked and that's while being close by, so a drone flying really slowly perhaps can work.
