I guess the five bedroom house wasn't his.  :)
Or after alimony she can afford a 5 bedroom and he's left with enough for an apartment
I'm not who you think I am.

Or she put the down payment on the house to begin with and all subsequent mortgage payments came from her paycheck

That would be tough because she had no money and never worked.

I'm walking down the street on shabbos when I pass by a few little kids & they say "good shabbos" to me. Am I supposed to:

A) return the greeting
B) ignore them
C) tell them they shouldn't even greet strangers

Maybe a slight nod with the head is enough to give you a balanced approach. It won't necessary make them continue greeting strangers, but you still won't be rude.

At least their parents taught them proper manners.

When I was in yeshiva in CH I used to get a kick out of telling passerbyes good shabbos and watching the puzzled expressions of people trying to figure out if they knew me :D

In CLE it would be considered quite rude to walk by and not wish GS.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

There's just so many crazy stories out there. The kletzky story started from the kid simply asking for directions. I've taught my kids not to talk to strangers, and that includes greeting them.

That's ONE story. Horrific as it is, can you name another? Your kid is likely safer asking directions from a stranger if they get lost than hanging around his/her extended family and/or teachers.

There are unfortunately many stories of creeps trying to lure kids into their cars or something similar. And it usually starts with a smile & a "hello".

Statistics say otherwise, a kid is way nor likely to get abducted by a relative or someone he knows...

Those are usually part of a divorce or the like.

I believe you're wrong. The "creep in a car" is a caricature of abusers that has developed over the years, when in actuality an abuser is likely a relative or teacher of the child, someone who can develop a relationship and gain trust.

I'm not suggesting you encourage your child to chat with strangers, I'm saying telling them not to respond to a good shabbos reeks of misplaced paranoia.

-1. Ask a cop or shomrim. IIRC the 4 shomrim shot in BP were trying to apprehend one of these creeps.

I wasn't referring to responding. I was talking about the kids initiating the greeting to passing strangers.

You can't have it both ways. They either talk to strangers or they don't. Should they say good morning to ever stranger on the street?
I just found a new supply of forks!
