Can someone give me the dummy's version/rundown on what Snapchat is?
basics:
it's a social media app. you can post a picture or a short video of 10 seconds or less. this is your 'story'
people that have 'added' you can see them. they can go back and look at them repeatedly for 24 hours from when you post.
the app can also be used as a secure message center. you can message, chat, call, video call, or sends 'snaps' (pics/videos) back and forth and as soon as you exit the chat, you can't see the conversation.
if any screenshots are taken from the 'story' or private messages, the op gets a notification.
you can choose to save a message and that will be there any time you go back. both parties can see those messages and the other person gets a notification that you saved one of their messages.
privacy:
you can choose who sees your story. it can either be anyone or only people whom you 'follow' as well.
if someone has added you, you can see how they found you. either by your number, by your yellow qr code, or by your username.
you can block people and they won't know it unless they go looking for you
you can unfollow someone and they won't know either
you can delete anything from your story within 24 hours
you can save any of your content to your photo gallery within 24 hours
fun stuff:
the fun thing about snapchat is the weird/cool filters you can have before or after you take a picture. for example when the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was coming out, they were advertising on snapchat. you were able to put your face on one of the ninja turtles.
they sometimes have flower crowns you can add, different animals, face swapping, etc.
you can also include the time you took the pic, the weather, the speed that you're currently going, geo tags, dates, etc
when taking a video you can choose for it to be in 3 speeds. slo mo, fast, super fast. you can also have it go backwards.
you can only post pics taken through the app, not from your own photo gallery, except you can replace your face with any pic in your gallery that has a face.
it's not that complicated once you're on it for a bit. you figure most things out by watching other snappers and testing it out on your own.
