Usually when I see an abbreviation I pronounce it (in my head), in short form. For example FR would be read ef-are. Therefore grammatically it makes sense to write an FR over a FR (read: a financial review). But this one just doesn't seem right, because in my head I read it as hat tip.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

This is actually grammatically correct. If it is an abbreviation that is usually pronounced or read as the abbreviation itself, then you use 'a' or 'an' based on how the abbreviation sounds, not what the actual letter is. So for FR, you would indeed use 'an' FR.

Is it just me or has the snarkiness coming from people trying to get help on the forums gotten worse lately?

I'm with you, that's what I just did a few minutes ago. Once a guy gets all snarky with me, I'm out. I like helping people but I'm not here to pander to morons who think everything is coming to them.

This sounds like a post in the god save us from your opinion group!
In what respect is your question ?  My understanding is the website is put together by orthodox (ultra conservative) in terms of religous affiliation but is meant for people across the spectrum of Judaism

Not sure, I've only used them for their resources. Is there a specific answer your referring to?

I'll read through that when I have a minute but I won't be sorry (except for the possibility of wasted time) I asked, I actually appreciate hearing opposing opinions especially ones that are intelligent and challenge my premises.

Orthodox but catering to everyone which skews the way they write about certain topics.

I've read the better part of both articles and I'm yet to find the part which is skewed.
