Is it customary to tip full service gas attendants in NJ (where there's no self service) when paying cash? I recall reading something to that effect a while back (I don't think on DDF). Recently I find myself filling up with cash more often, and I'm never sure if I should be tipping and how much I should be. Anybody have any ideas?
The few times that I used cash I tipped if:

1)The Guy was nice
2) and if I got change under $5. I would then give $1.
Banned.
The fools who don't have decent enough credit, to get a CC, don't have the extra dough to tip.
But I have seen often people tipping the change, if it's low of course.
From your perspective think about it, we are paying more already just to have these gas attendants, so I wouldn't enjoy having to tip.
Thank God for plastic.

Is Chasepay so hard to max out on?
Gotta take it down a few notches...

Thanks, that's pretty much what I've been doing. Although, I feel like sometimes I'm better off not tipping at all rather than embarrassing the guy by giving him a dollar

the few times that i tipped( even though i never pay for gas with cash ) the attendant really appreciated that single dollar and did not look at all embarrased

If attending a DO, and each person is paying separately, do you tip, or do you assume that everyone else's tip adds up to what you'd ordinarily tip anyway?

Assume "everyone else" includes @ChaimMoskowitz

Thanks for the offer, I'm OK though.

Now, if anybody else ever found themselves in the same boat as me and is able to answer the question, I'd really appreciate it
When I was a young kid, I remember my parents ALWAYS tipped the gas attendant. That wasn't in NJ, was many years ago, and I don't think self-serve was even an option back then.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

You tip and some places add it in automatically so don't double tip.

What about if they already added 18% gratuity to your bill, do you still tip?

I think it's ridiculous, I just paid $150 for a meal, you add a mandatory 18% gratuity because there were 10 people and I should still have to add another 15-20%? Let's assume everyone spent the same amount, the meal took 2 hours, and the gratuity was split between 4 waiters, that's still $33/hr on top of whatever the restaurant pays them. Are you trying to tell me a waiter deserves $60 an hour to serve a table of 10, split with 3 other waiters?

LOL! You think waiters are making $27 an hour? Try taking $20 off that.

In the old days when the gas attendant clean your windshield and checked your oil. Nowadays where having a attendant is more of a burden than a luxury. I remember when I was a kid everyone tipped the attendant.

Assuming the tip goes entirely to them, that's what the case would be here. Obviously the restaurant isn't paying them nearly that much.
