I'm suprised noones found a way to replicate their reliability while adding 21 century features. Doctors  productivity would increase tremendously if they could communicate back and forth instead of using one way.

That is a drawback but also can be a benefit to keep noise level down.

When my wife was in the hospital having our son, they had more of a walkie talkie type device. I'd call it a cross between a walkie talkie, pager, and a phone. @CM, the hospital was in the same network as the one you recently visited, do you remember what they were using?

If you use a hospital that CM uses too, don't be surprised if they are using devices from a century or two back.

No but I didn't see anyone on a cell phone or walkie talkie.

It was a device they were wearing clipped on their shirts that has an ear bud on it. They may not have had it by you, just because they had it by me.

That just deflects the question, how do they not have a more technologically advanced means of communicating that is also hipaa compliant?

Portable deceives including cell phones can be HIPPA compliant. Maybe they look at it if it isn't broke why fix it.

I dont know if it's completely broke, but it does leave lots of room for improvement. We know communication is key to running any smooth operation, the better your platform to communicate is the higher your odds are of performing better.
Also , simple questions can be answered without needing the doc to drop everyhting he/she is doing.
And I would imagine malpractice insurance would go down as they can better track the  communication resulting in less frivolous law suits.

What are you up to? how long ago did they pass? I'd have to assume if they had a POA, or something of the like, they'd be able to access it. Definitely not speaking from experience, but that's where I'd start.
